2023 Christmas Markets in Florence: From Piazza Santa Croce to the horticultural greenhouse and over to Piazza Santissima Annunziata, just a minute’s walk from Residence Hilda, the stalls of the Christmas markets have returned to illuminate the city and make Florence even more magical.

18 November to 17 December 2023

Christmas market in Piazza Santa Croce – Weihnachtsmarkt

One of the first, and most picturesque, markets in Florence opens on 18 November 2023: In Piazza Santa Croce, in front of the Basilica, where 50 small wooden huts arrive for the Weihnachtsmarkt Christmas market. Among the stalls, with exhibitors from all over Europe, you can find artisan crafts, household items, and food, as well as delicacies such as pretzels, strudel, and mulled wine. There are also events, Christmas carols, and the opportunity to personally give Santa your Christmas letter at the weekend.

2-3 December and following weekends

Christmas market at the Florence Ferris wheel

New for 2023. Florence’s large Ferris wheel will move from Fortezza da Basso to the Cascine Park, and will remain open beyond the Christmas period. From the first weekend of December, an authentic Christmas village and market will be set up near the wheel in Piazza Vittorio Veneto.

8-10 December 2023

Immaculate Conception and Christmas Fair

The association “La Fierucola”, which promotes the agriculture of small family farms and traditional artisan crafts, is organizing three Christmas markets for Florence in 2023. It starts on 8 December with the traditional Immaculate Conception Fair in Piazza Santissima Annunziata, a stone’s throw from Residence Hilda, with festivities lasting from dawn to dusk. On Sunday 10 December, the Fierucolina in Piazza del Carmine presents local agricultural products from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. Finally, on Sunday 17 December, the Christmas Fair opens stalls for small businesses in Piazza Ognissanti, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm.

The “American Christmas Market” of 2023: Christmas Bazaar

One of the most anticipated Christmas markets in Florence is the Christmas Bazaar, organized by the Ailo Association, the American International League of Florence ODV. As usual, the 2023 edition of this charity fair will take place over the long weekend for the Immaculate Conception in the enchanting setting of the Tepidarium del Roster. On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 December, a vibrant market will be held in the Horticultural Garden greenhouse to support local non-profit organizations. Here you can find vintage clothing, knitted and crocheted children’s clothes, handmade items, books, and Christmas decorations. On 8 December, Santa will also visit the market to the great joy of all children.

Creative Factory (Christmas version)

The markets organized in Florence by the Heyart Association will return to Piazza dei Ciompi with Christmas colors from 8 to 10 December thanks to Creative Factory. The star of the 2023 Christmas market is the creativity of small artisans who offer unique items that are the perfect solution for anyone in search of an original gift. Creative Factory supports handmade projects and small independent brands with the motto: “it is not only about the unique and high-quality object itself, but also about the human value and story of passion that it encompasses.”
