Donatello, the Renaissance
A new major exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi will be the star of the cultural spring in Florence this year. The exhibition, opening March 19, promises to be one of the best ever dedicated to this master of Renaissance sculpture: Donatello. Created in collaboration with the Berlin State Museums and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, as well as Palazzo Strozzi, the event will take place at the Bargello Museum where numerous works by the great sculptor will be exhibited alongside masterpieces by other artists such as Brunelleschi, Raphael, and Michelangelo.
While waiting for the "Donatello, the Renaissance" exhibition, however, there are plenty of other opportunities to enjoy Florentine art and cultural initiatives. In fact, the next few days are your last chance to see the spectacular works by contemporary sculptor Jeff Koons, on display at Palazzo Strozzi until January 30. If you'd rather immerse yourself in the Renaissance atmosphere, you can visit the Benozzo Gozzoli exhibition at Palazzo Medici Riccardi, dedicated to his famous "Chapel of the Magi" with paintings and drawings that reveal the secrets of the fresco commissioned by the Medici in the mid-1400s. The exhibition is open until March 10.
January is the best time to go shopping in Florence. January 5 kicks off the sales season among the boutiques of Via Tornabuoni and in the shops of the historic city center, where you can find real bargains among Florentine designers such as Gucci, Ferragamo, and Cavalli.
January 15 and 16, meanwhile, are dedicated to the Florence "Antiquaria", a prestigious market in Piazza dell’Indipendenza.
Visiting Florence is always a great idea! We'll be waiting for you.
