Jeff Koons in Florence with Shine
Jeff Koons in Florence with Shine, the new exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi.
Shine is the title of the latest exhibition by Jeff Koons, open from the beginning of October at Palazzo Strozzi. The magnificent Renaissance palace will host this exceptional exhibition, one of the most important that Italy has ever hosted, until 30 January 2022.
The theme of "shine" represents the essence of "being" and "seeming", in a dialogue that balances on the edge of ambiguity and invites each visitor to personally participate. The pieces on display include the iconic Rabbit and Balloon Dog, as well as the Balloon Venus Lespugue, all created in shiny metal with the appearance of being inflated, where visitor see their own image reflected back at them and become an integral part of the sculpture in a continuously moving game of mirrors.
Joined by other sculptures from the most important museums and private collections of contemporary art, the Jeff Koons exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi offers visitors to Florence the unique opportunity to see the Gazing Ball series, sculptures of the Antiquity series, and still other pieces resulting from 40 years of artistic activity.
Though Jeff Koons is a star of the contemporary art scene and one of the richest artists in the world (the Rabbit was auctioned for 91 million dollars), he personally curated every detail of the exhibition, including the color of the captions in ultramarine blue. “I am a lucky man. I am happy to finally be able to carry out this exhibition," he told the press, referring to the two years of constant work and preparation as well as the delays caused by the pandemic.
