This retrospective, the largest ever held in Italy, celebrates the career of the American artist, a true pioneer whose influence was fundamental in the panorama of artistic movements ranging from Abstract Expressionism to “Color field painting”, initiated by Frankenthaler.
Helen Frankenthaler: Painting without rules at Palazzo Strozzi Florence
Helen Frankenthaler (1928 – 2011) is known for her revolutionary approach to painting, which challenges traditional conventions and creates new relationships between form and color.
The exhibition presents a careful selection of works representing the painter’s almost five decades of activity, from 1953 to 2002, offering a complete overview of the artist’s stylistic evolution.
Furthermore, the exhibition also highlights the artistic connections and influences that shaped her work through pieces by other great artists of her time, such as Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko, exhibited in dialogue with her own pieces.
