Thousands of irises in bloom in the free gardens of Florence

The Iris Garden in Florence is a magical place. Every year, this romantic park hosts thousands of blooming irises across the meadows that descend from the hill shaded by olive trees down to the Arno.

It is a truly spectacular display with more than 1500 varieties all blooming in unison throughout one of the most beautiful free gardens in Florence. A stone’s throw from Piazzale Michelangelo, the Iris Garden has been a pilgrimage destination for over 70 years for hybridizers from all over the world who participate in the annual contest for the most beautiful iris.

The best time to admire all this beauty is from 25 April to 20 May, the only period this garden is open to the public.

The free garden everyone must see in Florence is the one dedicated to roses

No springtime trip to Florence is complete without spending at least a couple of hours at the Rose Garden.

The meadows of the hill gently descend from Piazzale Michelangelo towards the Arno, with more than 1000 botanical varieties of roses filling the air with a sweet scent that enchants everyone who passes by. Among the paths of the garden you can also admire sculptures by the artist Jean Michel Folon, who left twelve pieces to the city he loved so much.

An atmosphere of tranquility pervades the garden and it is a true pleasure to walk among such beauty. The best time to visit the Rose Garden is between late April and all of May when you can enjoy the blooming of this flower so sacred to Venus.
